About
Sonic bastardized is a free, open-source, cross-platform 3d fangame project done completely with free, open-source software:
  • Blender as the 3d modeler and game engine.
  • Pygame as the sound layer. 
  • The Gimp as the image/texture editor.
  • Subversion for source versioning control (Dev file manager)
Game features
  1. Cross-Platform: the game can be run without any limitations in GNU/Linux, Windows, and Mac OS X (not tested, but it should :-P).
  2. Made with the BGE: this game is completely made using the Blender game engine, that is free and it's integrated to Blender itself, powerful, easy to use and you see the results in real time.
  3. Realtime slopes system: Sonic automatically aligns to the terrain when running, this makes gimmicks like loops, ramps, tubes and corkscrews possible and easy (you only have to model the shape, the slope detection is automatic) This system has some interpolation and speed variations to make it more smooth an stable. No prerecorded stuff!
  4. Synchronized animations: the animations like walking and running are adjusted automatically to match the real speed Sonic is running at.
  5. Configurable via XML: The controls and settings can be configurated with a simple xml file (WIP) 
  6. Modular and extensible architecture: the game is programmed in Python, an easy to learn language, with a clean syntax. Each part of the game communicates with each other via messages. making it very flexible, robust and extensible.
  7. Free and Open Source: the code of the game is freely available, you can use, copy and modify the game under the license conditions (read the license faq for more info). 
The Team
By now this project is being worked out by Cyborg_Ar (José I. Romero) as the main developer, and programmer and VenomSeven (Erik B.) as the lead cgi artist and level designer.

Well, here you can download the demo, you need an opengl-compatible card with proper drivers to play it
  • Source .blend: this will (hopefully) run in all platforms (you have to use a recent svn build, or blender 2.47)
  • Windows Build: i made a prebuilt .exe for windows with all the dependencies (you dont need to install anything!) UPDATED 8/19 WITH BETTER CONTROLS!!!
  • UPDATED 8/19 Patch: If you already downloaded sonic bastardized before the update, you can download this patch (half the size) that contains just the .exe, you just have to replace the old game.exe with this one.
